Possession of any amount of cannabis without a medical card is a felony in Arizona. However, medical marijuana is legal for patients with a physician’s recommendation and a number of qualifying conditions.
In November 2016, the people of Arizona rejected a ballot initiative that would have legalized cannabis in the state. 51.32% voted “no” and 48.68% voted “yes”—a margin of only 67,000 voters. Safer Arizona is leading a campaign to put another legalization initiative on the ballot in November 2018, but they need to collect 150,642 valid signatures by July 5, 2018 to do so.
